Syakieb Sungkar

Syakieb Sungkar earned his bachelor’s degree in Telecommunications from Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB) in 1986 and later completed a Master of Philosophy at Sekolah Tinggi Filsafat Driyarkara in 2020. Beyond his artistic practice, he is active in intellectual and cultural discourse as Editor-in-Chief of Jurnal Dekonstruksi. As an artist, he has been actively exhibiting since 2020, participating in more than 25 solo and group exhibitions.

His notable solo exhibitions include Retro Expressionism at Galeri Titik Dua (2021), Galeri Cemara (2023), and Seri Hijau Tosca at Galeri Zen1 during Art Jakarta (2023). He has also taken part in group exhibitions at prominent venues such as Salihara, Galeri Sika, Bentara Budaya, Museum Pasifika, and Selasar Sunaryo. In 2025 alone, he exhibited at Selasar Sunaryo, Balai Budaya, and Galeri Neo, reflecting his continued presence in Indonesia’s contemporary art scene.

In addition to visual art, he is a prolific writer, with publications including Jejak Senirupa (2014), Melacak Lukisan Palsu (2018), Seni Sebagai Pembebasan (2022), and Sketsa Kebudayaan Kontemporer (2024).
