Ristyo Eko Hartanto

R.E. Hartanto is an Indonesian artist born in Bandung in 1973, whose portraits explore anxiety and disconnection in contemporary society. He received his formal training at Institut Teknologi Bandung and later at the Rijksakademie van beeldende kunsten in Amsterdam.

Tanto's portraits capture vivid and often unsettling facial expressions, from cryptic suspicion to shock, reflecting a deep reflection on modern anxieties. In addition to his studio work, he is an active figure in the art community. Since 1998, he has participated in numerous solo and group shows, led workshops, initiated art projects, and curated exhibitions. He also shares his knowledge by teaching courses and writing for the art blog "Doctor Rudolfo's Art Clinic."
