Wilhelmus Jean Frederic Imandt

1882 – 1967

Wilhelmus Jean Frederic Imandt was born in St. Jansteen, the Netherlands, in 1882. He first visited Indonesia in 1908, where he lived and worked as a painter while also teaching drawing at a secondary school. Between 1920 and 1925, Imandt actively participated in several exhibitions organized by the Bataviasche Kunstkring in Jakarta.

He returned to the Netherlands in 1928 and remained there until 1935, before traveling back to Indonesia to continue his artistic practice. Around 1946, Imandt finally resettled in his hometown in the Netherlands, where he lived until his passing in 1967.
