Rudy Pranadjaya
1948 – 2005
Rudy Pranadjaya was a modern Indonesian painter known for his expressive synthesis of traditional and contemporary art. Born in Cirebon, he moved to Bandung in 1964 to study under Barli Sasmitawinata and Srihadi Soedarsono, later continuing his training at Studio Rangga Gempol (1971–1975). His first exhibition was held in Surabaya in 1965.
Rudy spent several formative years in Bali (1968–1971), where he absorbed the island’s rich visual culture, which later became a recurring inspiration in his works. He’s a member of Kelompok Seniman Bandung and participated in numerous exhibitions both in Indonesia and abroad and undertook a study tour across Europe in 1981–1982. Deeply influenced by the traditional wayang kulit of his Cirebonese roots, Rudy’s works reflect a poetic dialogue between cultural heritage and modern artistic expression.
