Sudarso was a prominent Indonesian painter whose career began unexpectedly. As an egg and milk seller, he met and learned from Affandi, and other painters like Barli, Wahdi, and Hendra. Sudarso later taught at the Indonesian Fine Arts Academy (ASRI) in Yogyakarta.
He was renowned for his unique ability to portray simple village women against natural landscapes, capturing their psychology with striking authenticity, especially their hands and feet. Sudarso held solo exhibitions from 1961-1969 and participated in numerous group shows, including "19 Indonesian Painter" in Singapore and Malaysia (1967). His distinctive works remain highly regarded in Indonesian art.
