Valentinus Atmo Sudiro

V.A. Sudiro (Valentinus Atmo Sudiro) is an artist born in Yogyakarta on December 24, 1939, who contributed to the construction project of the National Monument in Jakarta around 1964–1965. Throughout his career, he often portrayed the figure of Semar as a central subject and consistently worked within a representational painting tradition. His works are frequently interpreted as surrealist paintings.
In addition to painting, V.A. Sudiro also explored batik-based artworks, particularly between 1970 and 1974. Since the 1960s, he has participated in numerous art exhibitions both nationally and internationally. In 2016, he held a solo exhibition at the National Gallery of Indonesia titled Samar-Samar Semar Sudiro.
