    Indonesia Indonesia

    1942 – 2006

Irsam was a prominent Indonesian artist and a graduate of the Indonesian Fine Art Academy (ASRI) Yogyakarta. He is recognized as a powerful decorative painter whose works are known for their rhythmic and poetic qualities.

His art frequently emphasizes the symbolic values of agrarian society, reflecting his deep connection to traditional Javanese cosmology. Themes such as rural nature, the bond between mother and child, and various Javanese mythologies are central to his expressive canvases. Irsam held his first solo exhibition in Jakarta in 1967 and received international accolades from the Philippines, Singapore, and Thailand. In 1980, his work was featured in the Contemporary Asian Art Exhibition at the Fukuoka Art Museum, Japan.
